This educational activity is jointly provided by AXIS Medical Education and the Connecticut Hospital Association in collaboration with the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services.
Target Audience: Physicians, nurses, social workers, quality professionals, risk managers, healthcare executives, and all healthcare professionals working with patients impacted by trauma and addiction. Description: This session—led by Catherine Hinojosa, DNP, from the Community Health Center in New London, Carol Jones from Alliance for Living, and Cathy Zall from the Homeless Hospitality Center— explains the intersection of housing instability and substance use disorder. The presenters will also highlight the unique challenges and evidence-based strategies to providing substance use treatment to patients with housing instability. The webinar will also include important information on the role of harm reduction in the treatment process, and the benefits of taking a collaborative approach to care for this patient population.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this activity, participants can expect to:
• Discuss unique challenges and successful strategies for working with substance use treatment providers and patients experiencing housing instability.
• Explain the enhanced risks, as well as patientcentered strategies, for maintaining access to addiction treatment for patients experiencing housing instability.
• Describe harm reduction and its importance in working with people with substance use disorder.
• Discuss how collaboration is necessary to reach vulnerable populations and supporting health needs.

Social Workers As a jointly accredited organization, AXIS Medical Education is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. AXIS Medical Education maintains responsibility for this course. Social workers completing this course receive 1.0 continuing education credit.
Risk Management This meeting has been approved for a total of 1.0 contact hours of Continuing Education Credit toward fulfillment of the requirements of ASHRM designations of FASHRM (Fellow) and DFASHRM (Distinguished Fellow) and towards CPHRM renewal.
