Implicit Bias: Awareness, Accountability, and Action
Thursday, October 21, 2021
9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Webinar
This virtual educational activity is jointly provided by AXIS Medical Education and the Connecticut Hospital Association
in collaboration with the Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health
Target Audience: Healthcare executives, physicians, nurses, social workers, quality professionals, risk managers, and all healthcare professionals working with women and families to decrease disparities in maternal and infant health outcomes.
Description: Implicit bias refers to the unconscious attitudes and stereotypes that can affect our understanding, actions, and decisions. From an Awareness standpoint, healthcare clinicians need to be fully aware of the complexities and impact of implicit bias on patient experience and engagement. Looking at Accountability, healthcare clinicians need to acknowledge, challenge, and manage their biases. From an Action perspective, healthcare clinicians need tools, skills, and strategies for comfort, confidence, and competence to connect, communicate, and effectively collaborate cross-culturally.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
- Describe implicit bias and its harmful connection to workplace emotions, attitudes, and behaviors for clinicians and healthcare leaders in the healthcare environment.
- Discuss new tools, skills, and strategies for building healthy, respectful, and productive relationships among clinicians, leaders, patients and their families.
- Develop cultural competence to ensure unbiased healthcare delivery.
Class size is limited; early registration is encouraged.
